WATCHLIST: Dashing Dashboard – a Date with Destiny
SCENARIO: Two learners “Reset” for their second “Date;” they’re seeing a film that will “Complete” the series (the Reset Date now shows on the Complete tab). The feel awkwardly “Incomplete;” one has “Not Started” the Quintology, the other tried to binge it but is still “In Progress” (the Dashboard now has 5 tabs; the Not Started and In Progress tabs replace the Incomplete tab). It’s official! They’ve decided to go on “Multiple” dates. If they set a “Send Reminder,” they won’t be “Exported” from future zany adventures together (select multiple tabs to access more results; the Send Reminder and Export CSV options include these findings).
The Dashboard serves as a central hub for both users and managers to monitor training progress, manage upcoming deadlines, and organise tasks efficiently. By providing a clear overview of training statuses, reset dates, and the ability to filter and combine different categories, the Dashboard enhances productivity and ensures that users can focus on priority tasks. These updates aim to improve usability, clarity, and time management.
Key Features
Before diving into the details, here’s a quick snapshot of the exciting new features we’ve added to our Dashboard:
- Select multiple tabs and see the results in one spot.
- Send reminders and create exports based on your multiple tab selections.
- Pinpoint your data with the new Not Started and In Progress tabs; these replace the Incomplete tab, which combined both these scenarios. You can still see the combined data using the multiple-tab feature.
- Gain a more holistic view with the Complete tab as it now includes any assigned reset dates.
- Filter by group when the All Accounts - Learning Progress dashboard option is selected – available for Site and Learning Management Administrators.
These changes ensure that the Dashboard is more user-friendly and better equipped to support the diverse needs of its users, ultimately leading to improved productivity and efficiency.
Detailed View
Here’s a closer look at the enhancements we've made to the Dashboard.
New Tabs
Splitting the Incomplete category into Not Started and In Progress tabs provides you with more precise information. These tabs differentiate the level of completion by dividing incomplete courses into those that are underway and those that are unstarted. This distinction helps learners manage their training effectively and provides administrators with more granular data, enhancing overall training management.
The Incomplete tab has been removed and replaced with the Not Started and In Progress tabs. In the All Training Summary widget, blue represents Not Started tasks and Orange represents In Progress tasks.
Multiple Tabs
There is a new tick box within the header of each tab. Use these tick boxes to select multiple tabs. The data from each selected tab displays in the table. Anything chosen here is reflected in the Send Reminder and Export CSV functions, which saves time and reduces repetitive tasks.
Reset Dates
Including a course’s reset date in the Complete tab helps learners prepare for upcoming resets and lets managers know if a reset date needs to be added to or updated against a course. This feature ensures that all stakeholders are aware of important deadlines and can plan accordingly.
Group Filter
A new filter called Group has been added as an option within the All Accounts - Learning Progress dashboard. This filter is available to Site and Learning Management Administrators. The content within its drop-down aligns with the Learning Management System (LMS). Only one group can be selected from the Group drop-down, ensuring a focused and tailored view of training progress.
Send Reminders
The Send Reminder function supports combined tab selections. It uses a default subject line and body message that includes the tabs chosen and sends that reminder to the required users. For example, if you ticked the Overdue, Due Soon, Not Started, and In Progress tabs, the default subject line would be “Reminder: Your training is Overdue, Due Soon, Not Started and/or In Progress” and the default body message would be:
“Dear Example User,
Our records show that the following training is Overdue, Due Soon, Not Started and/or In Progress:
- Course One
- Course Two
Regards,
[Your Name]”
The Send Reminder feature is not available on the Completed tab, ensuring reminders are only sent for tasks that require attention.
Export CSV
The Export CSV functionality supports combined tab selections, making data management more efficient. When exporting information from the Completed tab, the CSV also includes any applicable reset dates in the Next Reset Date column. This enhancement facilitates better data analysis and record-keeping.
Enhanced Dashboard Quality
Our Dashboard updates introduce several features that collectively enhance user experience, improve task management, and streamline workflow. The key benefits include:
Better Task Management
Providing more detailed task categorisation helps learners, Site Administrators, Learning Management Administrators, and Direct Managers identify issues, manage deadlines, maintain accountability, and streamline their workflow.
Increased Flexibility and Efficiency
Enhanced reminder and export functionalities, along with customisable views and group-based filtering, allow for a more tailored and efficient use of the Dashboard. The new Group filter option available to Site and Learning Management Administrators improves organisation by enabling a more targeted approach to training management. This filter aligns with the structure of the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring consistency across platforms. The ability to send reminders and export data for multiple categories simultaneously saves time and reduces repetitive tasks.
Improved Visual Clarity
The Combined Tab Selection feature allows users to select multiple tabs simultaneously by ticking each required tab. For instance, combining the results of the Due Soon tab with the Overdue tab provides a comprehensive view of tasks that need immediate attention. This feature offers a more customised view and provides a more efficient task management pathway.
A vibrant orange represents In Progress tasks in the All Training Summary widget. The blue in the widget now highlights tasks that are Not Started, making it simpler to assess training progress at a glance.
Motivation
We’ve designed the Dashboard updates to provide users and administrators with better tools to manage their tasks and training programs. By enhancing planning capabilities, improving visual clarity, increasing flexibility, boosting efficiency, and enabling better task management, we aim to create a more intuitive and effective Dashboard experience.
