Training Catalogue – pointing out how long it takes.
We’ve enhanced the Catalogue tool so that we can deliver exact training point and duration information and create a better experience for both administrators and learners. The training point and duration information shown in the Catalogue and Training Catalogue is now drawn directly from the course. This reduces manual effort for administrators and enables course information to be delivered from one source of truth. Learners can use the training point information to plan their development goals more effectively. In addition, understanding a course's duration ensures that learners are prepared for the time commitment required.
We’ve updated how course information is sourced for display in the Catalogue and Training Catalogue. By drawing training point and duration data directly from the course we simplify administration, reduce the risk of outdated or mismatched information, and ensure greater consistency across all Learnforce platforms.
Catalogue
Previously, administrators manually entered and managed training point and duration information in the Catalogue. As of this release, these details are auto synced directly from the course into the Catalogue. – Please note that an administrator can choose if this data is also displayed in the Training Catalogue.
We’ve updated several areas within Catalogue to support this change.
Field label changes
We’ve renamed the following two toggles to better align their terminology with their functionality:
- Enable training points is now called Show training points.
When enabled, the Training Catalogue lists the training points assigned to each course within the product. This can be shown as training points, CPD points, or n/a.
- Enable training hours is now called Show training duration.
When enabled, the Training Catalogue shows the duration (in hours and minutes) of each course assigned to the product. Only minutes are shown when the duration is less than an hour and n/a is used when no duration information is available.
These new names more accurately reflect the purpose behind the settings and aim to help administrators better understand the impact of these fields.
Catalogue changes are reflected in the Training Catalogue once they are published.
New read-only fields
Two new read-only fields have been added to the Catalogue; they are:
- Product training points – displays the total points (and associated point type) for every course included in the product. This information is pulled directly from the course. The name of each course is included when the product contains multiple courses.
- Product training duration – shows the total duration (in hours and minutes) for each course included in the product. This information is pulled directly from the course. The name of each course is included when the product contains multiple courses.
To ensure data integrity and accuracy, these fields are automatically populated and cannot be edited manually.
Fields removed
We’ve removed the following manual entry fields:
- Select point type
- Number of points
- Number of hours
As training point values and durations are now drawn directly from the course, these fields are no longer required. Removing them helps reduce administrative overhead and ensures that the Catalogue reflects up-to-date training information.
Training Catalogue
A course’s training point and duration information can be displayed in the Training Catalogue. As this information is linked to the Catalogue, please note the following:
- Changes to the Catalogue are reflected in the Training Catalogue once they are published.
- When the Show training points toggle is enabled, the Training Catalogue lists the training points assigned to each course within the product.
- When the Show training duration toggle is enabled, the Training Catalogue shows the duration (in hours and minutes) of each course assigned to the product.
- The display format varies depending on whether a product contains a single course or multiple courses:
- Single course: The course’s training point and training duration information is listed in bold underneath the product’s description.
- Multiple courses: Shows a list of the included courses in bold using the dot point format. The relevant training point and duration information is included underneath the name of each course.
Displaying the data
To provide a clearer and more consistent experience for learners, we’ve updated how training points and duration are shown in the Catalogue and Training Catalogue.
Training points
Training points are displayed in this format:
- < value > < type >
The type relates to the training point’s name – for example, CPD point/s, CPD credit/s, CPD hours, training points, other training points, or n/a.
For example:
- 1 CPD point/s
- 0.5 CPD point/s
- 0 training points
- 0.5 training points
- 0.75 CPD hours, 1.5 CPD point/s, 0.5 CPD credit/s, 1.25 other training points
- n/a
Training duration
Training duration is displayed in this format:
- X hours, Y minutes
Only minutes are shown when the duration is less than an hour and n/a is used when no duration information is available.
For example:
- 1 hour, 30 minutes
- 20 minutes
- n/a
