Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation
We have converted our course on Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation into our new Responsive format.
This course is designed to provide an understanding of how to insert a peripheral intravenous cannula (PIVC) into an adult patient and to prevent and control healthcare associated infections (HAIs) associated with this procedure.
This course provides an understanding of:
- How the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards are applicable to invasive device management
- The risk of infection posed by PIVC insertion and the measures that need be taken to prevent and minimise this
- What equipment is required to successfully insert a PIVC
- How to prepare a patient for PIVC insertion
- The recommended processes for inserting, maintaining and removing a PIVC, and
- The complications that can occur.
After completing this course and before you can be deemed competent to perform IV cannulations for your organisation, a required number of simulated and live cannulations will need to be successfully undertaken, as per your organisation’s policies and procedures. This should be assessed by a competent clinician, that is, someone with formal recognised training in the practice, and substantial practical experience. Only trained competent clinicians should insert a PIVC.
Reasons and benefits of the update: This product has been updated to provide more relevant imagery and text modifications in line with current terminology and best practice. This course features some great illustration, animation and activities.
Changes have been made to pre-assessment questions and/or references to legislation that only affect some sections and learning outcomes. We therefore recommend that clients update to the new units and use Adaptics to determine which sections of the training learners need to review.
This product has also been updated with the addition of a customised new ‘home page’ feature. This new element of the Kineo Courses offering provides a dashboard style entry point into the module.
