Flexible Endoscopes and Ultrasound Probes IPC Risk Management Modules updated
Kineo Courses, in partnership with HICMR, has completed updates to the Flexible Endoscopes & Ultrasound Probes IPC Risk Management Modules 1, 2 & 3, to cover best practice and risk management in Australia
Flexible Endoscopes & Ultrasound Probes IPC Risk Management Modules 1, 2 & 3
These courses have been updated in response to these risks and revised industry guidelines including GESA and GENCA’s Clinical Update Infection Prevention and Control in Endoscopy. The courses have also been updated in line with the Kineo Courses product framework, providing learners with new features such as full course voiceover, new homepage functionality, and customisable accessibility settings.
The importance of Infection Prevention and Control Risk Management
Infection Prevention and control risk management is at the core of safe and efficient endoscopic and diagnostic procedures. This has been emphasised in recent years by endoscopy-associated infection outbreaks.
The courses have been designed to educate healthcare workers responsible for the management and reprocessing of Flexible Endoscopes and Intracavity Ultrasound Probes of the high-risk nature of these procedures, the recommended IPC practices, and the risk management strategies that prevent infection, according to current standards, guidelines, and manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFU).
Module 1
Module 1 has been designed to educate healthcare workers responsible for the management and reprocessing of Flexible Endoscopes and Intracavity Ultrasound Probes of the high-risk nature of these procedures, and recommended IPC practices according to current standards and guidelines, and manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFU). The course provides an understanding of:
- education, experience and learning tools requirements
- environment and equipment requirements
- Procedure Room and Reprocessing Area practices
- responsibilities of healthcare workers in relation to IPC management of Flexible Endoscopes and Ultrasound Probes, including Loaner/New Flexible Endoscopes and Ultrasound Probes
- appropriate precautions, including Standard and Transmission Based Precautions, personal protective equipment (PPE) and effective hand hygiene, and
- documentation, and incident management.

Module 3
Module 3 has been developed to provide healthcare workers responsible for the management and reprocessing of Intracavity Ultrasound Probes (also referred to as reusable medical devices – RMDs) with an understanding of the recommended reprocessing procedures from an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) risk management perspective. This course provides an understanding of:
- risk minimisation
- water quality
- precleaning of Intracavity Ultrasound Probes
