Competition and Consumer Law Suite Updated

As of July 1st, 2021, amendments to the Australian Consumer Law have come into effect. Our Competition and Consumer Law Suite has been updated to reflect these amendments.

On July 1st, 2021, amendments to the Australian Consumer Law came into effect.

Previously, under the Australian Consumer Law, a ‘consumer’ was defined as a person who purchases goods or services, which were:

  • of up to $40,000 in value, or
  • of a kind acquired for personal, domestic or household use or consumption, or
  • trailers or vehicles used principally to transport goods on public roads.

From the start of the 2021/22 new financial year, the value of purchasable items has been adjusted to $100,000.

Businesses that provide goods or services to consumers in Australia must comply with the consumer guarantees under this Law. Businesses should take steps to ensure that they are compliant with these changes, by training staff working with customers on any new rights they may have.

Our Competition and Consumer Law Suite has been updated to reflect these amendments. These courses have been reviewed by Margaret Barron, a recognised subject matter expert in this law.
