Catalogue Switch – Hello Catalogue Items, Goodbye Products.
A refinement of language and logic in the Catalogue. The terminology switch from Products to Catalogue Items brings the Catalogue in line with its real-world purpose — a place to curate and present course collections. This update delivers greater clarity, consistency, and a sleeker user experience.
We’ve aligned our terminology with the Catalogue and made it easier to navigate the user interface. To create consistency, we’ve streamlined these changes across our platforms.
What’s New – Portal
The following changes have been made to your Portal’s Training Catalogue page:
- Name change – from Product to Catalogue Item
For consistency and clarity, the term Product has been changed to Catalogue Item.
- Two-column layout for wider screens.
Browsing has been improved! When the screen width is wider than 1280px, catalogue items now display in two columns, flowing left-to-right, top-to-bottom, making it easier for your users to scan and select the items they need.
- Simplified course duration display.
To create a cleaner, more readable format, course duration no longer shows unnecessary minutes. When the course was in full hour units, the duration would display as X hour(s) 00 minutes. For example, 1 hour 00 minutes, 2 hours 00 minutes, or 5 hours 00 minutes. As of this release, these scenarios only list the hour. For example, 1 hour, 2 hours, or 5 hours.
What’s New – Catalogue
Every reference to Products throughout the Catalogue has been updated to Catalogue Items to maintain consistent terminology. We’ve also enhanced the following:
- New landing page – combined assets
The new landing page, Catalogue, has two tabs:
1. Catalogue Items (default tab)
~ View, access, and download a report for all your Catalogue Items via this tab. It contains a table with the following columns: Catalogue Item, Enrolment Type, Status, Categories, and Unit ID(s). It lists the results in alphabetical order, and you can click different headers to reorder the results to your liking.
~ Navigate to a Catalogue Item’s page by clicking its name.
~ Click a button to download a CSV file of the results.
2. Pending Requests
~ Use this tab to view, approve, or decline requests from your Portal’s Training Catalogue. A listing is created when a user requests enrolment in a Catalogue Item that requires authorisation from a Catalogue Approver.
- General section replaced
We’ve removed the General section from the left panel to streamline navigation and optimise space; this provides you with more room to focus on Categories and Catalogue Items. The General section’s sole function, accessing Pending Requests, is now available via the Pending Requests tab.
- Catalogue, a header in navigation
The Catalogue header is now a navigational tool. Click it to open the main landing page, which contains the Catalogue Items and Pending Requests tabs.
- Counting Categories
The Categories section in the left panel displays a list of your categories, with each one now showing the number of Catalogue Items linked to it.
- Time simplified
We’ve updated course durations for Catalogue Items so that whole hours no longer show unnecessary minutes. For example, ‘X hour(s) 00 minutes’ is now just ‘X hour(s)’.
Language shapes how we use and understand a system. By refining terminology and structure, we’ve made the Catalogue easier to use and to think about. This update also creates a more intuitive, consistent, and user-friendly experience. A place where design and function are built to work together.
