Assist Clients with Medication ~

This product has been converted into Responsive format and has a significantly improved look and feel.

This course has been designed to provide you with an understanding of how to assist clients in the residential aged care setting and the home and community setting with their medication needs.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • ensure you have the authority to proceed to assist a client with their medication
  • prepare the client for assistance after identifying the level and type of physical assistance or supervision required
  • assist and support the administration of a wide range of different types of medications
  • understand some of the ways medications are classified
  • identify lines of authority, accountability and actions to be taken to handle contingencies
  • complete the documentation associated with the administration of medication, and
  • implement hygiene and duty of care procedures when addressing the needs of the client.

This course supports the theoretical component of the HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medication unit of competency. This unit can be completed as an elective towards the Certificate III in Individual Support or the Certificate IV in Ageing Support qualification within the CHC Community Services Training Package release 3.0.

This product has been converted into Responsive format. We recommend that clients update to the new unit for an improved learner experience. Changes have also been made to pre-assessment questions and/or references to legislation and best practices that only affect some sections and learning outcomes. We therefore recommend that clients update to the new unit and use Adaptics to determine which sections of the training learners need to review.

The Australian Healthcare and Hospital Association (AHHA) endorses this course as meeting AHHA's standards for educational quality and usability, with the content having been developed by an appropriately credentialed subject matter expert.

Learners who successfully complete this course may be eligible to earn a digital badge to demonstrate completion.
