Updated course

Medication Calculations Competency

‘Medication Calculations Competency’ and ‘Medication Calculations Competency for Enrolled Nurses’ combined into a single updated course.

Our subject matter expert, Frontline Care Solutions, has advised us to combine both courses for the contemporary practices of all nurses that are registered and qualified to administer medications in their scope of practices, using the following rationale:

  • All nurses are now registered as General (RN Div 1 & RN Div 2/ EN )
  • All contemporary EN’s can administer medication under the current diploma qualification
  • The EN that cannot, has a mark on registration will be clear in the terms of not being holding a qualification or endorsement
  • The same rules apply to Midwives under the Act

This competency course will assess your ability to:

  • perform metric calculations and conversions
  • calculate oral tablet and capsule doses
  • calculate oral mixture and solution doses
  • calculate intramuscular and subcutaneous injection doses, and
  • calculate IV therapy fluid volumes and rates.

The Australian Healthcare and Hospital Association (AHHA) endorses this course as meeting AHHA's standards for educational quality and usability, with the content having been developed by an appropriately credentialed subject matter expert.

Learners who successfully complete this course may be eligible to earn a professional development digital credential.
